Alicia Molik and Casey Dellacqua winners at the Australian Open Wildcard Play-off first round
Alicia Molik defeated Jade Hopper 61 62 while Casey Dellacqua upset Olivia Rogowska 76 60 in the opening round of the Australian Open Wildcard Play-off.
Molik, who retired briefly in 2008, is making a successful comeback at Pro Tour level playing and winning ITF event and is looking foward to winning this wild card for the 2010 Australian Open.
Dellacqua, who is also coming back after a few month out of te tour due to injury, needed a tiebreaker to seal the first set but then Rogowska’s confidence began to crumble in the second as she sent a string of errors spraying out of the court and Casey took advantage of it.
“It was exciting to be back out there, be competitive and have a win,” Dellacqua said. “I was enjoying getting court time, and that’s just what this week’s going to be about – getting matches and playing a lot of tennis.
“But sometimes you just want to win and get off the court, so it was good.”
