Ana Ivanovic reaches third round of the LA Women’s Tennis Championships
Ana Ivanovic defeated Vania King, a wild card entry into the tennis event, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to reach the third round of the LA Women’s Tennis Championships after one hour and 49 minutes of play.
Ivanovic began brightly, breaking King to love and adding another break to lead 4-1. She was playing well within herself and overwhelming the diminutitive King with some searing groundstrokes.
The American was made of tough stuff and she refused to give in. She broke back and made the match competitive by the end of the opening set.
The second set Ivanovic struggled to find her timing and King played wonderfully consistently. Vania broke as Ivanovic served to stay in the set and levelled the match.
The former world number 1 regrouped commendably at the set break. She raced through the final set, pressing her opponent into mistakes, and hitting several flashy outright winners.
Ana Ivanovic will now play against Sabine Lisicki, who beat Kimiko Date Krumm 7-6, 2-6, 7-5.
