In just their third season of existence, the Atlanta Dream advanced to the WNBA Finals after beating the New York Liberty 105-93 Tuesday night at Philips Arena in front of a crowd of 9, 045.
The game was marked by physical play and Erika Desouza received a technical foul in the third quarter after a confrontation with Taj McWilliams-Franklin and Cappie Pondexter.
Angel McCoughtry led the Dream in the game two of the Eastern Conference Finals, setting a playoff scoring record with 42 points. Other Dream players in double figures included: Coco Miller with 19, Desouza with 15, and Iziane Castro Marques with 11.
Pondexter paced the Liberty with 36 points and nine assists. Essence Carson matched her career playoff record with 20, Plenette Pierson had 13 and McWilliams-Franklin finished with 11.
The Dream faces the Seattle Storm, the Western Conference Champions, Sunday at KeyArena at 3:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
