California Golden Bears guard Layshia Clarendon mentioned earlier this year that her experience at point guard during her sophomore year wasn’t something that she really enjoyed.
However, with Clarendon starting the game as a primary ball handler next to Eliza Pierre once again with regular starter Brittany Boyd out for precautionary reasons with a groin strain, Cal proved just how good they are in a comfortable 77-55 win over Oregon tonight.
That’s not to say the game was comfortable the whole way – the game was tied as late as the four minute mark in the first half. Yet they came out of the lockerroom at halftime looking more focused on the things they do best and simply overwhelmed the struggling Ducks to win their 12 straight game, a program-best.
Without Boyd to orchestrate their offense, Cal’s offense certainly struggled at times but in the second half their post players took control of the paint to help guide the team to victory.
