Japan Women’s Open: Caroline Wozniacki defeats Aleksandra Wozniak to reach semis in Osaka
Caroline Wozniacki battle hard to beat Aleksandra Wozniak 6-2 6-7 6-2 to reach the semifinals of the Japan Women’s Open in Osaka.
Wozniacki broke Wozniak twice in the final set to claim the victory after 2 hours and 13 minutes of play.
Caroline improved to 5-0 against Wozniak and will next play against Samantha Stosur, who defeated Jill Craybas 6-1, 6-3.
Sania Mirza was able to make it into the semifinals when Marion Bartoli was forced to retire because of a right shoulder injury while Mirza was leading 6-4 2-0.
“It’s a problem with a tendon in my right shoulder. I felt it from the first point” said Bartoli.
In Saturday’s semis Mirza will meet Francesca Schiavone, who advanced when Melinda Czink withdrew before the match with a right foot injury.
