Second in the series of weekly honors…
J.C. Lambert, Southern Illinois
At the SIU Saluki Open, Lambert threw the weight 22.66 meters (74′ 4 1/4″), a PR by over a meter. It puts him #8 all-time among U.S. collegians. He also took second in the shot put (17.30m) for good measure.
Penn State runners Robby Creese and Cas Loxsom ran very fast over odd distances. Creese ran 2:19.53 for 1000 meters, which broke the US Junior and collegiate records. Loxsom ran 1:16.66 for 600 meters, which is #3 on the all-time collegiate list. Both marks are “worth” mid-1:47 for 800 meters.
Texas hurdler Keiron Stewart won the 60 hurdles (7.77, a collegiate leader) and ran legs on the 4×400 relay and distance medley for the #10 Longhorns in their loss to #2 Arkansas.
Jeneva McCall, Southern Illinois
At the SIU Saluki Invitational, McCall threw the weight 23.76 meters (57′ 1/4″) for a new PR by 74 cm. The mark is #4 on the all-time collegiate list. She also won the shot put (17.04m).
Clemson’s Brianna Rollins won two events at the Virginia Tech Invitational: the 60 hurdles in an NCAA auto-qualifying 8.07, and a leg on the 4×400 relay.
At the Nittany Lion Challenge, Penn State’s Caitlin Lane ran the 1000 meters in a school-record time of 2:44.24, which is “worth” about 2:06 flat for the 800.
Ohio State’s Christina Manning won three events in a dual meet against arch-rival Michigan: the 60 meters (7.36, #6 on the yearly collegiate list), the 60 hurdles (8.12, #2 on the yearly collegiate list) and 200 meters (24.24, #4 on the yearly collegiate list). The meet ended in a tie, and Manning quipped that the meet should be decided by a coaches’ race.
In that same dual meet, sisters Emily, Erin and Carly Pendleton competed against each other, with Emily and Erin for Michigan and Carly for Ohio State. Senior Emily won the shot put and was third in the weight throw, junior Erin was fifth in the shot and fourth in the weight, and freshman Carly was sixth in the weight. In high school, the trio once combined for nearly 450 feet in a three-athlete team discus competition.
