From the bubble to facing Iowa State in Ames for the first round the tournament.
Who? The Seminoles of Florida State.
What? The team name is derived from the Seminole Tribe of Florida, who have an official agreement with the university. You probably won’t see Osceola and Renegade at a basketball game, though. Most basketball courts don’t take well to flaming spears.
Where? Tallahassee, Florida, or “old fields”.
How? They were an at-large selection.
Surprise? Predicted to finish fifth in the conference, they finished in ninth.
Record: 20-11 (7-9 ACC)
Good wins: Michigan State. Possibly at Syracuse.
Bad losses: At Wake Forest.
Who’s driving this thing? Sue Semrau, since 1997, who spent a lot of time in soccer in her early days.
Extra, Extra! The Tallahassee Democrat.
Watch out for the big girl. Senior forward Natasha Howard leads the Seminoles with 21.2 points and 9.3 rebounds. Sophomore guard Morgan Jones adds 12.1 points. Tiny point guard Yashira Delgado, the speedster they call Cheetah, runs the offense with 6.7 assists per game. The starting five is solid, but it’s not clear how much they’re going to get from their bench.Powered by Sidelines
