Detroit head coach Marynell Meadors may have squandered an opportunity for the Dream to have taken game 1 of the eastern conference semifinals against the Detroit Shock on Wednesday. After already giving up an 18-point lead, Atlanta was down by a single point, 90-89, late in the fourth quarter. With 16.2 seconds left in regulation, Shock guard/forward Deanna Nolan was injured during a shooting foul committed by Sancho Lyttle and had to be substituted out of the game.
Head coach Marynell Meadors, who could have picked any player on Detroit’s bench (minus Plenette Pierson and Katie Smith of course), made the decision to let Crystal Kelly shoot the free throws in Nolan’s place. (Read Atlanta loses game 1 to Detroit, Coach Meadors unsure how percents work)
