The USA and Sweden kicked off the Four Nations Tournament in Chongqing, China before Canada took on China to close out day 1. The USA lost to Sweden 2-1, and Canada came from behind to win 3-2.
Carli Lloyd scored the lone goal for the USA in the 11th minute. It came off a corner kick which was flicked by Lauren Cheney and then finished off by Lloyd. Five minutes later, Stina Segerstrom tied the game with a low shot past US goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart. Kosovare Asllani provided the game-winner in the 60th minute.
China had a half time lead of two goals to Canada’s zero. You Jia scored both goals for China in the 16th and 36th minutes. Canada managed to score three goals in the second half to win. Melissa Tancredi cut China’s lead in half in the 56th minute. Christine Sinclair then tied the game with a shot off the post in the 80th minute before scoring the game-winner in stoppage time.
Next, Sweden will take on China at 3 am ET, and the USA will take on Canada at 6 am ET on January 23.
