French Open: Dinara Safina impresses again and reaches 4th round
Dinara Safina blasted her way past Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova with a 6-2, 6-0 victory and reached the 4th round at the French Open where she will face Aravane Rezai.
Safina once again blasted out of the blocks peppering Pavlyuchenkova with her powerful groundstrokes down both sides of the court.
Dinara, the world number 1, is on a mission here to win a Grand Slam as the No.1 status she took on April 20 has been discredited in some quarters for her failure to have won one of the four major tournaments.
She also is keen to bury the memory of last year’s final when she allowed nerves to get the better of her against Ivanovic.
“I really did not know what to expect of her,” Safina said of Pavlyuchenkova.
“One moment you see her on the television and the next you are playing her in the court. She started very good and we had a few very tough games, but when I broke her serve I became more aggressive and I was dominating.”
Dinara Safina and Ana Ivanovic, who also was a winner today, could meet in the quarterfinals if both player win their next match… this will be a re-match of the French Open 2008 final where Ivanovic stormed past Safina.
