French Open: Venus Williams upset by Agnes Szavay at Roland Garros
Venus Williams suffered a humiliating6-0 6-4 loss to Agnes Szavay in the third round of the French Open 2009.
Szavay will next play against Dominika Cibulkova, who beat Gisela Dulko in straight sets.
Williams needed three sets to overcome her first two opponents at Roland Garros and on Friday it seemed as if she had forgotten to turn up when she lost the first set without even winning a game.
Szavay showed a strong performance that loured Williams into longer rallies and into playing an error-prone and unsuccessful set one with many points decided by Williams’ forehand errors or Szavay’s outstanding backhand.
Williams steadied her game in the second set to pull even with Szavay at 2-2 and 3-3 before breaking serve to reach 4-3 with a aw-dropping backhand winner.
Venus would lost her serve again to reach 4-4.
Szavay held serve then broke Williams’ serve to win the two remaining games of the match.
During the match Venus Williams served only one ace while hitting ten winners overall to twenty-three unforced errors in the one hour twenty-one minutes long match.
Later today Venus Williams will try to have some kind of revenge as she will face Agnes Szavay again in doubles.
Venus along with her sister Serena will face Szavay and Dulko in the second round of doubles.
