Maloy & Canada
In our continuing effort to support the future of females in combat sports, we at Wombat Sports starting a monthly spotlight on young fighters who are training to be the next superstars of their given sports.
At the age of 16, Jussely Canada is starting to train with the likes of InvictaFC vets Sarah Maloy and Cassie Roddish to make the jump to MMA within the next few years. This Okalhoma native has won her share on pankration and submission grappling, and is well on her way to a successful fight career.
Wombat Sports: What got you interested in getting involved in combat sports?
Jessely Canada: I really just ran out of things to do, and I always loved watching fighting and wrestling around with everyone!
Wombat: What do you enjoy about it?
Canada: I enjoy everything about it but if i had to pick something it would be competing!
W.S.: How has your friends and classmates reacted to it?
J.C.: My friends think its awesome that I do it, but they all think I’m crazy because I like hitting people!
W.S.: How about your family?
J.C.: My family are my biggest supporters they’ve never missed anything from Grappling to tournaments to me competing in Pankration.
W.S.: Who do you look up to in fighting?
J.C.: Sarah Maloy and Liz Carmouche they are truly amazing people and fighters!
W.S.: How do you feel about the future of females in MMA?
J.C.: I feel that the future of WMMA will be amazing, thanks to all the female fighters that now paving the way for the future!
W.S.: What comes naturally to you in fighting? What have you found difficult?
J.C.: My ground game comes naturally to me, and my striking comes difficult to me but I’m working on it and making it stronger!
W.S.: What are your aspirations in fighting?
J.C.: I would love to fight for the UFC, or Invicta, and become a champion one day!
W.S.: Anyone you’d like to thank/add?
