Wombat Sports is declaring July “Future Stars” month. We are going to profile some of those fighters under the age of 18 that will be the future of combat sports; be it MMA, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Training at CombatDo and Team Curran in Illinois, Danika Thibault is well on her was to becoming a MMA fighter. Under the tutelage of Bob Schirmer (who also trained XFC fighter Peral Gonzales), she is traing both her stand and ground game, and only years away from making her ammy MMA debut.
Wombat Sports: What got you interested in getting involved in combat sports?
Danika Thibault: My dad got me interested in combat sports because he used to do mma and then i started.
Wombat: What do you enjoy about it?
Thibault: What i like about it is that i get to learn new techniques and ways to defend myself in real life situations. Also, i just get to hit people.
W.S.: How have your friends and classmates reacted to it?
D.T.: My friends and classmates are cool with me fighting. They have a lot of respect for me and what i do.
W.S.: How about your family?
D.T.: My family loves me fighting. They all support me.
W.S.: Who do you look up to in fighting?
D.T.: I look up to all the competition in the future for me.
W.S.: How do you feel about the future of females in Muay Thai?
D.T.: I’m excited about females in combat sports because it gives us a chance to show everyone our skills and how hard we work at this sport.
W.S.: What comes naturally to you in fighting?
D.T.: I think punching comes naturally to me because i love to punch.
W.S.: What have you found difficult?
D.T.: I think what is difficult for me is to find time just to take a break and spend time with friends and family because I’m always training.
W.S.: What are your aspirations in fighting?
D.T.: Hopefully i get to fight in big shows
