Glamour celebrates the 2012 “Women of the Year” in its current issue and to represent the sports world, the magazine honors a range of gold-medal winning female Olympians. Following their impressive and inspiring performances at the London Games, Missy Franklin (swimming), Gabby Douglas (gymnastics), Kayla Harrison (judo), Allyson Felix (track and field) and Carli Lloyd (soccer) are among the ladies featured on the list. According to the magazine:
It was impossible to watch the 2012 Olympic Games without noticing: This was the Year of the Woman. For the first time ever, women competed in the same 36 sports as men. Another first? More women than men made the U.S. team—and they brought back a bigger medal haul too.
Last night the magazine held its annual “Women of the Year Awards” ceremony and the athletes dressed up for the occasion. These fierce competitors showcased their feminine sides, trading in their uniforms for couture fashions. Both Gabby Douglas and Allyson Felix made Glamour’s best-dressed list of attendees for the evening. A creme colored mini and matching Christian Louboutin heels had Gabby looking fun and fresh, while Allyson looked elegant in a black, mermaid gown and bright red lips.
