In: Stanford guard Melanie Murphy might make her first appearance of the season Thursday night against UCLA. Murphy, who had microfracture surgery on her knee at the end of last season, is cleared to play.

Cardinal coach Tara VanDerveer said the Murphy will see “limited” minutes this weekend. But Murphy brings important backcourt depth to the Cardinal. She is an experienced guard who does well driving the line and passing the ball into the post.
She missed 10 games last year and played 33 games the previous season. She scored a season-high 10 points last year in the Pac-10 Tournament title game against the Bruins.
Out: USC’s Stefanie Gilbreath. The academic senior who is playing her first season for USC after missing three years with a succession of ACL injuries, has a stress fracture in her foot. It is improving, but will not improve in time for her to play this weekend against the Bay Area schools.
Gilbreath has played in seven games thus far, hitting 7 of 15 attempts from the floor including four 3-pointers.
