The 2010 Spring Collections showcased by top designers
during Fashion Week this past Fall had a common theme: Sports. Let’s recap:
Hermes had a Wimbeldon-themed runway show, Lanvin incorporated Sumo wrestling, Y-3
played soccer on the runway and Alexander Wang’s entire collection was inspired
by American sports. As the new Autumn/Winter 2010 Menswear collections were introduced in Paris, a new sport was brought into the mix: Boxing.
Jean Paul Gaultier, a French couture designer, sent male
models down the runway adorned with bloody faces, black eyes, stitches and
fashions inspired by the sport. Belted robes, hoodies and leather jackets were
accompanied by sweat towels draped around the neck and of course, boxing gloves. Even the
designer himself took his bow looking as those he’d just battled for a few rounds.
