“Over the past 6 months Liz has been involved with the Australian National Team as they prepared for the 2012 London Olympics. She has returned from the Olympic campaign physically exhausted and is in need of some recovery time. Unfortunately this will make her unavailable for the remaining few weeks of the WNBA season. We are aware that this is an unfortunate situation and we appreciate and thank Tulsa Shock for their understanding.”

In a move that confirmed what many started rumbling about well before the 2012 Olympics 6-8 center Elizabeth Cambage will not be returning to the Tulsa Shock for the remainder of the WNBA season. While this was speculated about at length in the offseason, all signs were still pointing toward a post-Olympic return, including the Shock’s #Slambage splash page that was up as late as yesterday.
When Liz was announced to have “missed her flight” to the U.S. yesterday and has not posted a tweet since the evening of Aug. 26, I felt like this might be coming (even though I wished it to be not true). The 4-19 Shock have 11 games remaining in the 2012 campaign and are tied for last place in the West with Phoenix heading into the final month of the season.
