Yesterday was the first time I’ve run outside in about two months. I’ve spent a depressing two months running on treadmills because it was either too dark, too cold or the sidewalks were covered in snow.
Yesterday it was time to fix that. The temps had crept into the 40s and although the wind was blowing like crazy, I laced up my shoes and headed outside.
Oh and it was a rude awakening for my lungs. Hello, cold, crisp winter air, meet my poor lungs, used to breathing stale, warm, gym air.
Also, outside apparently there are these things called hills. Things I used to be conditioned to run up and down. Not so much anymore.
My first run outside was wonderful in so many ways, but a harsh reality check in so many others. I’m counting down the weeks (only two to go!) until we flip the clocks and get more daylight so I can fit in more outside runs during the week and banish the treadmill from my life.
In good news though, my hip hurt like a million times less running outside then it did running on the treadmill. I still treated it to the foam roller afterward though.
