Minnesota is still in contention for a playoff spot after a win against the Detroit Shock on Wednesday. Anna Montanana hit a jumper with 28 seconds left giving Minnesota a 2-point lead. The Lynx were able to hold off the Shock 75-72. Of course the win didn’t come without a scare.
With 6 seconds left and the Lynx up by 4 points, Quanitra Hollingsworth fouled Deanna Nolan as she was shooting from behind the arc. I suddenly had flashbacks to last year’s game when the Shock was down by three points and Wiggins fouled Nolan shooting a three-pointer as time ran out in regulation. Nolan made all three free throws sending to the game to overtime where the Lynx subsequently lost. The outcome was a little different this time around. Nolan missed 2 of 3 and solid free throw shooting by Candice Wiggins, who went 8-9 from the stripe, kept the Lynx on top.
Anyone see a reoccurring theme about the importance of free throw shooting? Thursday’s matchups: New York @ Detroit 7:30pmIndiana @ Chicago 8pmSan Antonio @ Sacramento 10pmPhoenix @ Seattle 10pmPowered by Sidelines
