NFL gear for women has received a major fashion overhaul in recent years. Apparel and accessories are more suited to the wants and needs of female fans and the league developed a dedicated “NFL Women’s Apparel: Fit For You” campaign to recognize the female fan base. Fashion houses are also working to get in on the action, teaming up with pro teams to offer a fashion-forward approach to fan gear design. The latest mix of sports and style involves Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, the designers behind high-end fashion brand, Marchesa, who are in talks to create a special line of New York Jets women’s tees.
The British design duo are known for their glamorous gowns and eclectic aesthetic, making it difficult to imagine what they would create for Jets supporters. While there is no confirmation of the partnership as of yet, several parties seem to be invested in the idea. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chapman’s husband, movie producer Harvey Weinstein, is a big fan of Gang Green. The two reached out to Suzanne Johnson, wife of Jets owner Woody Johnson and an ambassador for the NFL women’s campaign, with their idea. It didn’t long to get Johnson on-board and it appears she’s even done some casting for the Marchesa runway show, which will take place during Fashion Week in February.
“If Marchesa puts the shirt in their show, I will make (Jets quarterback) Mark Sanchez walk that model down the runway,” Johnson said. “I will beg him.”
