Injuries are piling up in the WNBA, which would be a normal story if not for the roster being chopped to 11 players. The latest is Minnesota F Seimone Augustus, who suffered a sprained left knee in Wednesday’s 104-80 loss in Phoenix. The Lynx All-Star (pictured right by NBAE) was flown back to Minneapolis for further evaluation today and a press release about her future is expected this evening.
Augustus will not play against the Storm on Friday. Seattle ended Minnesota’s three-game win streak last week, holding Augustus to one FG in the opening half.
Storm coach Brian Agler prepared his team to play with Augustus in Minnesota’s lineup. But G Roneeka Hodges, a former Storm training camp invitee, will most likely start in her place.
“They still scored a lot of points without her,” said Agler of the Lynx’s loss to the Mercury, where Minnesota was outscored 50-32 after the break. “They had opportunities without her, tied it up at one point, I think. They are a very good basketball team. They are not the Minnesota of what people think from the outside. The people within the league understand how good they are.”
