Moscow: Francesca Schiavone beats Olga Govortsova to win Kremlin Cup Title
Francesca Schiavone defeated Olga Govortsova 63 60 to win the Kremlin Cup title in Moscow .
Schiavone was able to dominate the whole matc thanks to her quick court coverage, vast versatility and superior experience.
The Italian stretched for a stab slice backhand to prolong the point and Govortsova slapped a forehand into the net to drop serve and fall behind 3-1 in the first set. Schiavone took a 40-15 lead in the following game, but double faulted, netted a tricky half volley and made two forehand errors to drop serve.
Forcing Govortsova forward to pursue a slice, Schiavone earned another break point, but Govortsova fired a backhand winner down the line to save it but then netted a backhand volley and Schiavone had yet another break point.
A brilliant forehand drop volley gave Schiavone her second break to take a 4-2 lead.
Olga immediately broke back for 3-4. Schiavone drew two straight errors to earn her third break of the opening set for 5-3.
Serving for the set, an ace gave Schiavone triple-set point and she slid another ace down the middle to seal the set, 6-3.
The second set started with double break point for Schiavone and she broke when Govortsova sprayed a forehand wide.
The Italian curled a crosscourt forehand winner for 2-0 and effectively explored all angles of the court in expanding her lead. Govortsova netted another backhand to drop serve and fall into a 0-3 hole. A biting backhand crosscourt gave Schiavone another break and a 5-0 lead.
Schiavone swatted an ace down the middle to reach championship point. Govortsova hooked a forehand wide and Schiavone thrust her arms in the air wearing the wild smile of a winner.
This is a great victory for Francesca Schiavone who was 1-10 in finals in the WTA Sony ericsson tour. Congratulations for your new title Francesca!!
