My name is Marissa Kastanek and I am a new blogger on Women Talk Sports. I am taking this opportunity on my first blog to introduce myself and give a preview of some the topics I will be discussing in my blogs. Thank you for taking time to read my posts and I will do my best to write about some thought provoking topics that can improve the game of women’s basketball.
I grew up on a farm in small town Nebraska where I played soccer, volleyball, basketball, and ran track. I went to high school at Crete High School and Lincoln Southeast High School where I accumulated on state championship in track and one in basketball. I played summer basketball with the Cornhusker Shooting Stars.
I attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina where I majored in Psychology and obtained three minors: Spanish, Sports Science, and Coaching Education. I played basketball for the Wolfpack Women from 2009-2013 and was a four year starter.
I was the team captain of Team USA in the Pan American Games in 2011 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Upon graduation I signed a professional contract to play basketball in Sweden with Marbo Basket. I leave for Sweden at the end of August and the season starts on September 1, 2013. I will be abroad for about six or seven months enjoying Europe and achieving my professional basketball goals.
My blog is designed to give an inside look at professional european basketball, encourage young female basketball players, introduce successful women in the game of basketball, and discuss camps around the country.
