To mark the opening of the season at Riverside Skate Park, GRO NYC and Summer on the Hudson held a girls skateboard jam on May 16th. The skate park originally opened in 1995 and features various skating surfaces, two half-pipes, and assorted ramps. It is located at 108th St. at the ballfield level. Riverside is a waterfront park from 72nd street to 158th street along the Hudson River. It is one of eight officially designated scenic landmarks in NYC.
Around 30 girls came out to skate or learn how. We started the day learning and teaching the basics of skateboarding. There were various ages and levels, with some girls trying it out for the first time, including some Moms with their kids.
Girls also decorated boards, grip tape and helmets and had an awesome day all together. Congratulations to the winner of our game of S.K.A.T.E, Nadya Goldstein and the winner of the stencil design contest Noa Berger, who both won a year GRO Rider membership to GRO NYC.
We look forward to seeing all the girl shredders we met, at future events at Riverside Skate Park and all around NYC!
