Tomorrow morning I’m off to Japan and the Chiba Ekiden Relay. I’m really excited and can’t wait to jump on that plane for Tokyo… Eh, 13 hours on the plane from Zurich is pretty long travel.. But I will manage with books and films! And I actually need some sleep after two very busy weeks at work.
First time I went to Japan was in 1996. Then I was on the team in ’97, but then we didn’t go there until 2001. And I was there again! Amazing experience and so much fun to meet many great athletes.
So, what’s the Ekiden?
The three times I have raced, it’s been men’s and women’s team. Now the teams are mixed;
We, the six-member squad of three men and three women will run a marathon-distance relay against teams from nine nations, including Kenya, Romania, Russia, China, Australia, Canada, USA, Italy, and hosts Japan,
The race features coed teams running six alternating legs that cover distances of 5K and 10K and a last leg of 7.195K.
I’m off in the morning and will try to post an update if I get online:)
I guess I should have had this adidas Ekiden model…Powered by Sidelines
