Every soccer-crazy kid has the same dream – you’re on holiday kicking the ball around and a scout from a big club scouts you. For for ten-year-old Aisha Saini of Scotland, that dream came true while she was in Spain on a summer vacation with her family.
Now it isn’t that rare to sign a very young player on the chance they blossom into the next Messi, who was signed at the ripe age of 13 by Barcelona after years of playing in Argentina. Dutch club VVV-Venlo even signed an 18-month-old last year after seeing a video of the toddler kicking balls into a toy chest. But history was made because the youngster AC Milan just signed will be the first female ever to play for the soccer powerhouse.
Saini was participating in another tournament while her family was vacationing in La Manga, Spain when Milan spied her skills. According to Metro, she and her family had no idea that the event was organized by AC Milan and were merely looking to give Aisha something to do.
The young midfielder will now join a handful of selected youngsters from similar summer camps across the continent.
“The scouts said they have never asked a girl to join their academy before but they saw her play and knew immediately she would be able to hold her own among a load of boys,” Saini’s father, a roofing contractor, told Metro.
