Keep in the loop on the 2014 USA Basketball women’s national team as they get ready to defend their FIBA World Championship title in Turkey.
USA Basketball has named 27 players to its training camp roster for the 2014 FIBA World Championship for women in Turkey. Training camp begins on September 8 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

26 players are on WNBA teams, and since Annapolis is near Washington, D.C., two players on the Washington Mystics are in consideration. They are rookie guard Bria Hartley and rookie center Stefanie Dolson. And if you read this site, we have plenty of great insights on them!
The one non-WNBA player on the team is UConn junior forward Breanna Stewart.
There will also be two scrimmage games in the USA before the national team heads overseas.
The USA Basketball Showcase will be on Thursday, September 11, at 7 p.m. ET in the Bob Carter Center in Newark, Delaware. Team USA will also play Team Canada on Monday, September 15 at 7 p.m. ET at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Both games will be televised on ESPN2. This is definitely good news for all women’s basketball fans.
Now if only they will also sell Team USA jerseys, like they are for the men’s national team.
After the two scrimmages stateside, Team USA will play four games in the France International Tournament against Australia, China, and France from September 19 through September 21. Their last scrimmage is against the Czech Republic on September 23.
The World Championships start on September 27.
