Wednesday, June 26 – In game two of the USASA National Women’s Open Cup, the Kansas City Shock went down to the Kansas City Dynamos 3-1.
Two early goals from the Dynamos in the third and fifth minute put up an early challenge for the Shock as they immediately began to battle back to make up the deficit. In the 21′, Racheal Quigley put a screamer away from the top of the 18, effectively putting the Shock on the board.
Back and forth play continued through the half with no additional goals, though Shock keeper Kelsey Gochnauer went down around the 30 minute mark with a dislocated thumb. Emma Crenshaw entered the match to play for Gochnauer and played through the end of the match.
The second half saw a continuation of the same back and forth with multiple missed chances on both sides. The Dynamos found the back of the net for a third time in the 55th minute, putting the score line at 3-1.
No additional goals were scored through the rest of the half, ending the game at 3-1 Dynamos.
The Shock faces off against the Houston Aces tomorrow, Thursday 27 at 10:00 am on field one at Overland Park Soccer Complex for the final match of the tournament.
