The Baylor Lady Bears defeated the Tennessee Lady Vols 77-58 in the Des Moines Regional of the 2012 NCAA women’s basketball tournament to advance to the Final Four.
While there’s plenty to be said about the game, obviously people are talking about the standoff at the end of the game, which has already been described by Kris Willis at SB Nation Dallas.
Baylor’s Odyssey Sims and Tennessee’s Shekinna Strickland had to be separated late in the game prompting Griner, Terran Condrey and Jordan Madden to leave the bench area. No punches were thrown but each player that entered the playing court were ejected. However, the NCAA says that none of the players will be suspended for the Final Four.
You can click here to watch the video of what occurred; it’s certainly not the kind of thing you want to see at the end of a game (or season or career) but it was also resolved relatively quickly without anything even more regrettable than players leaving the bench occurring after the initial exchange.
