Storm forward Swin Cash is getting some pub on the Web during the WNBA offseason. Currently playing in China, she received a nice write-up by Slam Online magazine and she’s being considered for the Seattle Sports Commission’s Professional Sports Star of the Year award.
The nomination come after her impressive 2009 WNBA season, where Cash (pictured right) was named MVP of the All-Star game and helped lead the Storm to the postseason, rebounding from back surgery in March. The SSC is celebrating the 75th year of the sports awards, taking over for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, which ceased its print edition last year. The P-I honored Storm F Lauren Jackson and PG Sue Bird in the past.
The mega ceremony will be at Benaroya Hall on Jan. 19. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by calling 206-215-4747.
Cash faces some stiff competition. Also nominated in the newly created pro category is Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez, Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller, race car driver Tayler Malsam, and Seahawks linebacker David Hawthorne.
Voting, a new feature, ends Jan. 15.
