First-year UW coach Kevin McGuff welcomed his fifth child into the world on Tuesday, a daughter named Lily Elizabeth Marrissa. She was born at 1:50 p.m., giving the McGuffs four girls and one boy — a complete starting lineup for basketball.
But wife Letitia said the children, all under the age of eight, aren’t hardcore into the sport, yet. The main reason is with her being a former player at Notre Dame and both parents having a background in coaching, the couple is picky about who teaches their kids.
The children already understand the basketball life, however, baby Lily arriving during the dead period of recruiting. How’s that for timing?
The McGuffs were on staff as assistant coaches when the Irish last won an NCAA title in 2001. Letitia, formerly Bowen, played for Notre Dame from 1991-95. Her husband was beginning his college career as an assistant at Miami from 1993-96.
In the new technology age, instead of tossing around cigars to celebrate, McGuff tweeted the news and thanked all of the responding well-wishers. He bought his wife cupcakes as a treat for “labor day.”
Washington will be reuniting in August, preparing for its European trip. It’ll be a benefit for the Huskies, spending time getting to know all of the new faces and learn the new the staff’s scheme before the season begins.
In terms of the 2011-12 schedule, however, a spokesman said it will be released soon. Finalizing holiday tournament plans appears to be the hold up.
