According to news first reported by The Columbian, Prairie High School senior Heather Corral plans to commit to Washington once the signing period opens in November. Corral is the sister of Southern California senior G Ashley Corral.
A 6-foot-1 G, Heather Corral suffered two ACL injuries but Washington continued to recruit her along with Gonzaga and Colorado. First-year coach Kevin McGuff will use Corral to help fill a roster that will see four seniors graduate next year.
“I wanted to be part of a program that was working to build itself,” Corral told the newspaper. “And if basketball were taken away from me, I’d love U-Dub and still love to be there.”
Corral’s coach, Al Aldridge, described her as defensive-minded and athletic. She’s expected to be fully healthy for her senior season with the Falcons.
“She’s crafty,” Aldridge said in the article. “She knows when to do it, when not to; her anticipation skills are phenomenal. Offensively, she’s a great passer. She has excellent floor vision. Plus her scoring. She’s the whole package.”
Corral made her visit at the same time as another top prospect, F Katie Collier, but Collier is currently battling a rare form of leukemia. She was diagnosed during her visit to Washington and doctors have told the Covington native that her chances of returning to basketball are reasonable. She’ll announce whether she’s going to sign with Gonzaga, UCLA or Washington next month.
