Forward Marjorie Heard will transfer at the end of the school year. The sophomore suffered a season-ending knee injury in in January just as she was starting to play her best basketball of the season.
Heard, a bruising 6-foot post, averaged 5.8 points and 4.1 rebounds in 39 games.
McGuff declined to elaborate on the reasoning behind Heard transferring. But the player did make an interesting post on her Twitter account Tuesday that could be telling:
It’s unclear whether the statement and her transferring are related. McGuff preferred to keep the focus on the current team after Wednesday’s 90-71 win in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
He planned to release at statement at the official end of the season.
“She’s going to seek a new opportunity,” he said when pressed in a postgame interview inquiring about Heard’s whereabouts on the bench. “Right now I just want to keep everything focused on our team…We certainly wish her the best and think she’ll be successful wherever she ends up.”
