If officially hired in Dallas, Johnson would be the only current Black female head coach in the WNBA.
Johnson was the head coach of the San Antonio Stars for one year (2017) and has been an assistant coach in the league for a total of nine seasons, all with the same franchise (the current Las Vegas Aces and former San Antonio Stars). She spent six seasons in San Antonio and the last three working under head coach Bill Laimbeer in Las Vegas. The Aces advanced to the WNBA Semifinals in 2019 and the Finals in 2020.
As a WNBA player, Johnson spent nine seasons with the New York Liberty and four in San Antonio whose team was then called the Silver Stars.
Brian Agler was the head coach of the Wings in 2019 and 2020 and the team missed the playoffs both seasons.
