London 2012 Olympics: U.S. weightlifter Holley Mangold steps into the spotlight

Holley Mangold was born on December 22, 1989, in Dayton, Ohio. She played high school football at Archbishop Alter High School as an offensive lineman. She was the first female non-kicker to play in an Ohio Division III high-school football game. She dropped out of Ursuline College in May 2010 where she was attending on a track scholarship to pursue her Olympic dream of weightlifting. In 2012, she made the U.S. Team as a superheavyweight. She is 5 feet 8 inches and 350 pounds.

She is the younger sister of Nick Mangold, New York Jets Pro Bowl center, who is 6 feet 4 inches 307 pounds and still maintains that he can lift more than his sister, even though her 319-pound clean and jerk is supposedly 12 pounds heavier than her brother’s best mark.

A video documentary about her life premiered on MTV on June 30, 2011 in an episode titled "I'm a Big Girl."

Holley's personal record in the combined snatch and clean-and-jerk is 255 kilos (562.2 pounds).
