Thoughts on Jenny Barringer's Coaching Change

The news broke on Thursday that Jenny Barringer will no longer be working with her college coach Mark Wetmore of Colorado. This comes as a shock to many because Wetmore's careful handling of Barringer throughout her career is one for the books, from her f

Black History Month – Honoring Female Athletes

Over the years, there have been many great black athletes. This month, to celebrate Black History Month, we’d like to honor some of the women who have contributed to the soul of sports. Pioneers Althea Gibson was a pioneer in both amateur tennis and pr

Strikeforce is Going to Have to Shell Out More Dough to Find Someone to Fight Cyborg

I just found out after perusing some posts on BloodyElbow.com that Marloes Coenen only made $2,000 getting pummeled by Cyborg at Strikeforce Miami. I don't know what she would have made if she had beaten Cyborg but it certainly wasn't going to be 6 figu

This was a great idea! Thanks for putting this together! It is all too often as a black female athlete, that our hard work and dedication to the game goes unnoticed. Not only do we have to compete against our opponents on the field, we are in a co...Read on

Well Jane, I don't think we missed Dr =LaVoi's point at all. Most just disagree with it. She is seeing things that just don't exist. THAT is a fundumental flaw in femenism today. So, we will continue to agree to disagree and I say UP with women...Read on

Good point Rob. If Toughill can beat Cyborg, she will dominate Gina. I hope Gina brings her A-game to the next title shot. It seemed like the pressure got to her at the last one, and there was a LOT of pressure. But it's part of the game.I for one wi...Read on

If the fight comes off, Toughill (5'10", street-weight ~160 lb) will be largest woman Cyborg has faced. She used to fight in the 160-170 lb range but dropped 20-25 lb so she could compete for the Strikeforce 145-pound title. This makes the fight part...Read on

Oh wow, you're right. Normally fighters of taking OFF at LEAST 10 pounds in the weeks leading up to their fight. I remember the fight in April where she was way over. I was really annoyed because if you're that much over, it's like you didn't even ca...Read on

RE: Strikeforce is Going to Have to Shell Out More Dough to Find Someone to Fight Cyborg
Typically she fights at 135, her last fight prior to Cyborg was at 135 which was less than 3 months prior to the fight to this fight. To add 10 pounds of muscle mass in that amount of time would be difficult to say the least. In my opinion that is wh...Read on

What weight does Coenen normally fight at? I guess I didn't realize 145 was up for her. It definitely isn't up for Toughill so I hope that fight happens...do you think Cyborg would dodge it? Has she done that before?...Read on

It's not the Cyborg is a good fighter in fact I think Coenen is probably a better fighter but she shouldn't have moved up in weight to fight Cyborg. At least Toughill is a legit 145 fighter although Santos is a heavy 145. I doubt santos will ever tak...Read on
