Atlanta Dream Media Day theme: Don’t Dream It’s Over

The Atlanta Dream hosted Media Day yesterday, and there was one specific message: win a championship.

The Atlanta Dream’s media day reminded me of the lyrics to the song “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by 80’s rock band Crowded House. Before you start scratching your head - stay with me now.

The chorus of the song goes like this -

Hey now, hey now
Don’t dream it’s over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won’t win

That pretty much explains how the Atlanta Dream is feeling right now. The team led by Coach Michael Cooper is hungry. They are not worrying about the competition or anyone else, for that matter. This team is determined and ready to get this season started.

Sure all the ladies had to endure getting their hair done, make-up, their pictures taken, but that’s just one part of the job. This team is focused, and they do not want to talk about last season. They are not worrying about what did not happen. As far as they are concerned this is is a new season, and you could see it in their eyes - this is the year they win a championship - period.

Angel McCoughtry when asked “What do you want to accomplish this season?” She said it best, “Win a championship” — that sentiment was expressed throughout the day.

These ladies are not here to play basketball - they are here to win basketball games and ultimately win a championship that has alluded them over the past few years.

Coach Michael Cooper was excited - he let us know he’s feeling good and his energy was contagious. He summed his thoughts of this new season quoting Pat Riley “No Rebounds - No Rings” and then he pretty much dropped the mic.

Don’t Dream It’s Over.
