Breaking: Ex-North Carolina player Rashanda McCants files class-action lawsuit against school

In wake of the alleged academic fraud case against North Carolina for “fake classes”, another class action lawsuit was filed against the school by ex-women’s basketball player Rashanda McCants. McCants is the younger sister of ex-men’s basketball player, Rashad McCants.

Another class-action lawsuit has been filed against North Carolina. Ex-women’s basketball star, Rashanda McCants — younger sister of Rashad McCants — has filed a new lawsuit against the school.

This lawsuit seeks damages for all athletes that were effected by the “fake-class” scandal. Rashad spoke out last year regarding “fake classes” - saying that those were the majority of the classes he took during his time at North Carolina.

The news was first reported by Derek Rowles of ABC11 Raleigh-Durham.

Here’s an excerpt from newsobserver.com:

A second class-action lawsuit was filed against UNC on Thursday, this time seeking damages for all scholarship athletes drawn into the fake-class scandal.

The NCAA is also listed as a defendant in the lawsuit, which alleges the NCAA and UNC’s “abject failure to safeguard and provide a meaningful education to scholarship athletes who agreed to attend UNC – and take the field – in exchange for academically sound instruction.”

The suit identifies former women’s basketball player Rashanda McCants and former football player Devon Ramsey as directly harmed by the fake classes.

McCants is the younger sister of Rashad McCants, a starter on the 2005 UNC men’s basketball team that won the national championship. He had gone on ESPN last year to disclose that the fake classes made up a high percentage of his classes at UNC.

McCants played for North Carolina from 2005-09. She was named Honorable Mention State Farm All-American. McCants was drafted in the second round by the Minnesota Lynx in 2009.
