Candice Wiggins signs with the New York Liberty

The Libs get a veteran guard who is looking for a fresh start in the big apple.

The New York Liberty announced on Monday that they have signed free agent guard Candice Wiggins. Wiggins previously played for the Minnesota Lynx (2008-2012), Tulsa Shock (2013), and Los Angeles Sparks (2014).

Wiggins played a large role with the Lynx in the early part of her career when she won the 2008 Sixth Woman of the Year award while averaging 15.7 points and 3.0 assists per game. In 2011, her role was significantly reduced, partly because Monica Wright was drafted and ultimately became a better fit with Minnesota, and an untimely Achilles tendon injury in 2010. Last season, Wiggins played sparingly as her season was also hampered by injury.

If Wiggins can remain healthy, she will be an effective combo guard, most likely off the bench. Here’s to hoping that she can boost the Liberty’s guard rotation as they head into the 2015 season.
