Coaching search update: Austin Peay, Georgia and Utah

With many universities winding down their respective searches, many are wondering, who the new replacements could potentially be. Below is the latest update on three programs: Austin Peay, Georgia and Utah.

As we talked about for the past couple of weeks, a lot of coaching searches are coming to their conclusions. Below, I will elaborate on where each search is at, and the potential candidates for said position.

Austin Peay:

  • Two names that are finalists for the Governors’ top position, are Chilpola College head coach Greg Franklin and Mercer assistant Tiffany Swoffard, per multiple sources. Both are alums of the program, and each have had success at their respective universities. There could be another candidate or two, but these two are definitely finalists.

Georgia:

  • The Bulldogs have done a great job in keeping this search close to their proverbial vest. But, there are some names that seem to be very plausible: Albany’s Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, Duke’s Joanne P. McCallie and James Madison’s Kenny Brooks. While, some within in the James Madison community deny there is any mutual interest, sources tell Swish Appeal that Brooks is receptive to the Bulldogs’ pitch. Also, Georgia is heavily considering hiring a top-notch assistant — and that includes current assistant, Joni Crenshaw.

Utah:

  • As I wrote about earlier this week, Utah is close to finishing their search, and seems to be closing in on their target. One candidate, Laura Beeman of Hawaii, pulled her name from consideration earlier this week. The finalists seem to be Wyoming’s Joe Legerski, Oregon State assistant Jonas Chartterton and BYU’s Jeff Judkins — all three have tremendous ties to the university. There could be another dark horse candidate, but, these three are at the top of the Utes’ list.
