NCAA Women’s Tournament Bracket: Alabama State Lady Hornets preview

Can these Hornets be swatted?

Who? The Lady Hornets of Alabama State.

When do they play in the first round? They play Florida State on Saturday, March 21 at 1:30 p.m. ET.

What? The world may never know. If you do, could you tell me?

Where? Montgomery, Alabama, home of the Hank Williams Museum.

When? March 14th, in Houston, Texas.

How? Jasmine Peeples’s 18 points and nine rebounds led four Alabama State players in double figures as the Lady Hornets thrashed a Southern team with nothing to play for, 73-55.

Surprise? Predicted to finish fifth in the conference, they finished tied for third and took the fourth seed.

RPI: 263

SOS: 345

Record:17-14 (10-8 SWAC)

Good wins: At Florida A&M is their only D-I non-conference win, so I’m going to go with that.

Bad losses: At South Alabama.

Who’s driving this thing? Freda Freeman-Jackson, since 1998. She’s also the senior women’s coordinator there.

Extra, Extra! The Montgomery Advertiser.

Sophomore forward Britney Wright leads the way for the Lady Hornets with 17.0 points per game. Junior center Jasmine Peeples averages a double-double at 11.2 points and 10.2 rebounds. Third-leading scorer Daniele Ewert put up 22 in the SWAC semi.
