Dance Card: Arkansas-Little Rock, Sun Belt

Tested and tried, the Trojans are ready for the tournament.

Who? The Trojans of Arkansas-Little Rock. I’ve seen it as UALR and heard it as Little Rock.

What? The Trojan has no name. The Trojan needs no name.

Where? Little Rock, Arkansas, title of two country songs on my iPod.

When? March 14th, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Why? They won the Sun Belt conference tournament.

How? Taylor Gault poured in 21 points, Alexius Dawn added 17 points and five steals, and UALR survived a nip-and-tuck game with in-state rivals Arkansas State, 78-72. Aundrea Gamble had 27 points in the losing cause.

Surprise? Predicted to finish second in the conference, they finished first, two games ahead of Arkansas State.

RPI: 36

SOS: 175

Record: 28-4 (18-2 Sun Belt)

Good wins: Oklahoma. At LSU.

Bad losses: At Troy.

Who’s running this show? Joe Foley, since 2003. Former head coach at D-II Arkansas Tech.

Extra, Extra! The Democrat-Gazette.

Senior guard Taylor Gault is the star of the show for the Trojans, at 15.3 points per game. Junior forward Shanity James adds 11.3 points on 51% shooting and a team-high 7.3 rebounds. The Trojans have been able to pick their opponents’ pockets well this year, averaging about 8.5 steals.
