NCAA Women’s Tournament Bracket: Northwestern State Lady Demons

Bedeviling the Southland.

Who? The Lady Demons of Northwestern State.

When do they play in the first round? The Lady Demons play Baylor on Friday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m. ET.

What? Shouldn’t that be Demonesses? One of the many schools to choose a name through a contest. Vic is legendary for throwing down with another mascot.

Where? Natchitoches, Louisiana, where there’s an alligator park.

Why? They won the Southland conference tournament.

How? Beatrice Attura had 19 points off the bench to spur a strong second half for the Lady Demons, who held off Houston Baptist 58-50.

Surprise? Predicted to finish second in the conference, they tied for sixth with Central Arkansas, six games behind Stephen F. Austin.

RPI: 209

SOS: 274

Record: 19-14 (10-8 Southland)

Good wins: Louisiana Tech.

Bad losses: At Grambling.

Who’s driving this thing? Brooke and Scott Stohr, since 2012. It’s an unusual role.

Extra, Extra! Maybe the Natchitoches Times.

Junior guard Janelle Perez leads Northwestern State at 15.3 points and 3.4 assists per game. Classmate Keisha Lee adds 10.7 points.

This is not a very big team- 6-1 Presley Owens is the team’s tallest starter, and their only rotation player over six feet tall.
