NCAA Women’s Tournament Bracket: Quinnipiac Bobcats preview

Lots of wins, but against whom?

Who? The Bobcats of Quinnipiac.

When do they play in the first round? They play Oklahoma on Saturday, March 21 at 4 p.m. ET.

What? According to their homepage, the mascot’s name is Boomer, but they don’t seem inclined to say why or how.

Where? Hamden, Connecticut, the Land of the Sleeping Giant.

Why? They won the Metro Atlantic conference tournament.

How? Only four players scored for Marist, and Quinnipiac got 18 points from Jasmine Martin to claim the title 72-61.

Surprise? Predicted to finish first in the conference, they finished five games ahead of Marist.

RPI: 24

SOS: 142

Record: 31-3 (20-0 MAAC)

Good wins: Albany.

Bad losses: Harvard in South Bend.

Who’s driving this thing? Tricia Fabbri, since 1994, back in the conference where her college basketball life started.

Extra, Extra! The New Haven Register, maybe.

Quinnipiac loves to spread the offense around. Everyone shoots. Senior forward Samantha Guastella leads the scoring charge, with 13.1 points per game on 42.9 shooting from beyond the arc. Graduate post Val Driscoll holds down the middle at 12.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks. Senior guard Gillian Abshire keeps a steady hand on the offense at 6.01 assists per game.
