Gearing for the beginning of WNBA training camp

Camp begins either Sunday or Monday for teams. In the meantime, the WNBA has a leader who is fired up:

New WNBA president Lisa Borders wants to fill seats with fans as passionate as she is: “a raving fan.”

I like the sound of that.

Team news:

The defending champion Minnesota Lynx have question marks.

The Phoenix Mercury will open training camp Monday without Diana Taurasi and others.

The Dallas Wings will play on a portable court this season.

Liberty story lines.

Contract ink is flowing.

Player news:

Lynx point guard Lindsay Whalen is ready for battle.

Coach news:

The Chicago Sky’s new assistant coach is Jonah Herscu.

College player news:

UAlbany’s Shereesha Richards aims to play overseas because she got no invites to any WNBA training camps. What the hell.

UConn forward Napheesa Collier underwent successful hip surgery yesterday.

Missouri has landed Kansas transfer Lauren Aldridge.

The process to litigation is a lengthy one in discrimination cases.

College coach news:

New Wisconsin coach Jonathan Tsipis is making a push for recruits.

Stephen F. Austin athletics is investigating a complaint against coach Mark Kellogg from a player who claims he treated her unfairly.

Dawn Plitzuweit is South Dakota’s new coach.

Coppin State coach Derek Brown is retiring.

New Albany coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee took a risk stepping away from the game to raise kids.
