Habitat For Humanity Build-a-thon 2012

Hey everyone,

So this weekend was AMAZING!! I went to Sony Studios and joined Habitat For Humanity at the Build-a-thon 2012, building homes for the Culver City Project.  Now I must say it was my 1st time doing that, hammering in nails, building walls, moving walls, and just getting my hands dirty but it was fun.  I think what made it most impactful, is when I realized that the hours that we put in is going toward giving someone a home, changing a FAMILY’S life!! That is HUGE, it’s not just your traditional give back, by donating money it’s a little more meaningful then that, at-least for me it was.  WE were making a difference and effecting people’s lives on a more personal level.  We were actually BUILDING their homes with them side-by-side, meeting the individuals who will be living in these residence was just awesome.

On the 1st wall my team completed we all signed our name, and I just wished what ever family is sheltered by that wall knows the hard work, love, and sweat that went into making it.  Then to top off the event they had a future home own come up and speak, and tell how much having us there working, helping create these homes means to the recipients.   It was really touching.

I would like to give a special thanks to Habitat For Humanity for allowing us the opportunity to help in making a difference in so many people’s lives, and Lowes for providing the resources to make it possible.

xoxo MacKenzie
