I want an Olympic baby (via @le_diable)

Too much to ask?

Here’s the thing: there are all kinds of studies that say that drinking 200mg of caffeine is “fine.” They say that there have been no birth defects from studies of women who consumed this amount during pregnancy. This is conventional wisdom at this point, and the number that all doctors throw around.

However, I don’t want my baby to be “fine.” I want my baby to be exceptional. Therefore, what I want to know is: am I damaging my baby’s adrenal system by consuming coffee? Or am I actually doing lots of little good things? I found one study that has all kinds of benefits to consuming coffee: depression prevention, memory improvement, decreased risk of cancer and diabetes, increased metabolism, etc. Those all sound pretty good.

This has led me to wonder what could my own mother could have done during her pregnancy to improve my running. More coffee? Less? More exercise? Less? Can you do less than zero? Just kidding, mom!

Do the decisions you make during pregnancy effect that 1% between good and great?

I’m sorry if you were hoping for an answer at the end of this, but I don’t have one. Therefore I operate on the theory that a happy momma equals a happy baby and coffee makes me happy.

P.S. I have four ounces about three-four times a day with lots of milk so that I think I’m still drinking four cups of coffee a day, but I’m really only drinking one. I’m so tricky.
