Invicta Announces Year End Award Winners

grasso 01

InvictaFC may have had only three events in 2014, but they were exciting ones.

The promotion let the fans vote for their year end awards and with a lot of great moments and fighters, it wasn’t an easy task.

Upset of the Year went to Brazil’s Herica Tiburcio with her win over champion Michelle Waterson. The match was the last of the year for the promotion and ended with a guillotine in round 3. This was her debut at atomweight after fighting most of her career at 115.

Submission of the Year saw Mexico’s Irene Aldana sink in the rear naked choke over Peggy Morgan. Aldana’s crisp striking set up the choke in the first round.

Alexa Grasso took home Knockout of the Year with her finish over Alida Gray.It took 1:47 for Grasso to finish the fight with a fury of punches.

Grasso took home a second award with Fight of the Year, sharing that honor with Ashley Cummins. The back and forth striking battle saw Cummins take some huge hits but she just wouldn’t quit. Grasso would take the decision win.

With those two awards, Grasso was the fan’s choice for Fighter of the Year. With fighters such as Tonya Evinger and Roxanne Modafferi both getting exciting wins this year, there were some great choices. Grasso’s US debut has seemed to make an impression and is a strawweight to look out for in 2015.
