Hi Everyone
The past few days have been tough. I haven’t posted recently because I have been trying to work through my asthma. This past weekend it crept up on me. I trained on Saturday fighting through the monster I call asthma. My chest was hurting and it was a little difficult to breath but I was able to complete the workout. For the remainder of the weekend all I did was rest. Going into practice, on Monday, I thought I was ready and my asthma was under control. After my first run, I realized I wasn’t 100% ready. I still finished the workout the best I could but I was extremely compromised. By the end of practice, my chest was hurting, I was having shortness of breath, and I was coughing non-stop. Later that evening I was taken to the ER for a treatment.
Asthma is an illness that I was diagnosed with when I was young, but hadn’t had complications with it until I got older (which is part of the reason why I am still learning how to master it). Unlike having the flu it doesn’t go away! Any time I have a combination of things happen such as getting the flu, or miss my daily medical treatment, or exposed to rapid changes in weather, to name a few, I’m at risk of my asthma being triggered.
Over the past few years I have been learning how to manage it and not let it be a huge problem. Despite, I was in the ER last night I stopped it before it got out of control. This is a battle that I am determined to win and that I will not let hold me back. Many people let there asthma get the best of them, and allow it to dictate what they do. But I am taking control of my destiny and greatness, and I am willing to do what is necessary to live with asthma and live my dream. I am not 100% sure why my asthma has been giving me problems over the past few days. One reason may be because the weather became abnormal dry and windy all of the sudden, I conclude this because my aunt plus a few other asthmatics I know had problems this past weekend. Dealing with my asthma is even more frustrating when I can not lift or train because it is flared. At these times, I am forced to remind my self of the work that I have put into training up to this point, and that taking a few days to recover will not take away from the hard work and training that I have done. In addition, since I caught it before it went to far, I will be able to hit the track again on Thursday. Being aware of my health and in tuned with my body has aloud for a quick recovery. Although I still struggle with my asthma from time to time I have come along way and for the most part it is under control. Talk to you soon
xoxo MacKenzie

I completely feel your pain as an asthma sufferer myself. I recently did a major thing..... I trained for a half marathon I ran 4 races prior to tackling the 13.1 miles. Please check out my blog http://www.askdrrenee.info/blog
