So I heard there's a little streak going on in Connecticut, how about you?
Well, there are others throughout the country too, and DePaul's victory over Stanford on Thursday night brought a few interesting "other" streaks to an end.
In preventing Stanford Coach Tara VanDerveer from getting her 800th victory. DePaul coach Doug Bruno ended a two game streak of allowing 800th victories, having previously coached against both Pat Summitt and C.Vivian Stringer when they won their 800th. A great quote from Coach Bruno:
"When you go to Tennessee and you sit there as sacrificial lamb for coach Summitt winning her 800th and then you sit there as a a sacrificial lamb for coach Vivian Stringer with her 800th. There comes a place and a point. I told alums before the game if we get beat tonight they should throw hats on the floor for me because I would have just scored the hat trick, been three-for-three and the answer to a great trivia question."
Second, Stanford had won 62 straight games against teams not named Connecticut before dropping this one. Their streak of not losing to schools not in the Big East conference remains intact.
Third, Stanford had not lost by 20 points since they lost to Washington in February 2003.
Fourth, Kayla Pedersen, by not playing ended a streak of 121 games played, every game since she enrolled at Stanford. Had she started every game Stanford played this year, she'd have been the first ever Cardinal to pull that off.
Hmmm, foreshadowing the weekend? Ohio State, are you taking notice?
